Lal Salam

Lal Salam is a political Hindi film released in 1990 under the banner of the telugu film industry by Venu Nagavally. It reflects the life of the three young revolutionaries and their struggles in the 50s and 60s in Kerala. It is interested in their loyalty to communism and the outcome for the private realm.

Storyline

The main story of The Lal Salam is all about three friends, Sakh. He loves communism and he joined the party to struggle for the rights of the poor and the suppressed class of society. On the same note politics, personal commitment, drastic situations, and other factors bring the two friends to part ways and lead different lives as they grow up.

In the role of Sakhavu Sethulakshmi the artist Geetha Kutty has depicted how much a woman can suffer for others.

The political and social atmosphere of the time portrayed in the film is well supplemented by the experience that Vijayaraghavan , Kollam Thulasi , and Jagannatha Varma have brought into the film.

Political views of the era have been brought out vividly most of the time, especially the director Venu Nagavally who dominates more the feels and liberalism or revolutionary spirit of lovers. The script by T. Damodaran is right on the job regarding the script, it has both, personal and political dimensions. The main character of the movie has to do with the countrified through visuals about rural Kerala wherein the movie takes the viewers from the broad tracts of greenery and simple houses to the interiors of native Keralites with the help of cinematographer Ramachandra Babu.

The library of Lal Salam also has the major component of music by Raveendran which has an identity with the mood of the movie. It has good music and the songs have been well penned by O. N. V. Kurup he composed the music for this film and many of the songs special the song showing revolutionary spirit. Songs like ‘Lal Salaam’, ‘Sakhavu’ etc are close to heart as they were very much emotional and had the capability of making the public wake with the feeling of responsibility.
